We were recently asked by architect Huub van Wijck to become acquainted with a typical, contemporary handform factory. For, when he was a student he moonlighted as a handformer in a brickyard. He made millions of bricks but did not take away a single one as a memento of those days.

We wanted to test Huub to see if he could still make handform bricks. That’s why we invited him to come to our clay product factory Façade Beek, giving him the opportunity to make a few handform bricks himself.
We thought ordinary Waal formats would be too simple for an ‘experienced’ handformer like Huub. He showed that he had not lost the skill. He is now the happy owner of a few unique self-made handform bricks, which were dried and baked at Façade Beek. According to Huub, the big difference — and advantage — from the old days is that hand forming is now done by machine.
